Embedded software and firmware development
Haksi develops embedded software and firmware for new and existing hardware products. We help define the software architecture, implement device functionality and integrate the firmware with electronics and the systems around it. Our team in Jyväskylä works in Finnish and English.
Discuss your projectWhen we can help
For teams building a new device, developing an existing codebase or solving a specific firmware problem. We choose the development approach around your hardware, product requirements and existing tools, and can develop the electronics alongside the software.
What we can develop with you
- Software architecture and firmware development for new and existing products
- RTOS-based and bare-metal development, using a platform suited to your device
- Device interfaces, wired and wireless connectivity, and system integration
- Hardware bring-up, testing, troubleshooting and ongoing firmware development
- Software updates, reliability and power optimisation to match the product requirements
How the work progresses
Understand the product
We discuss what the device needs to do, its hardware, operating conditions and the systems it connects to. We also review any existing firmware, development tools and constraints.
Choose an approach and develop
The software platform and communication interfaces follow the product requirements. We implement and test the essential functions, using prototypes where they help resolve open questions.
Integrate, test and maintain
We test the firmware on the actual hardware and in its intended use. Development can continue through production and later versions, including changes to functionality, interfaces and the underlying platform.
Questions before starting
Can you work with our existing firmware platform?
Yes. We can develop an existing codebase or start a new implementation, working with RTOS-based and bare-metal firmware. Zephyr and Nordic nRF are examples of technologies we use; we also work with other platforms. Tell us about your hardware, software environment and development needs.
How do you choose connectivity for a device?
We start with the operating environment, range, data volume, latency, power budget and the systems the device needs to connect to. Existing infrastructure and ongoing costs also matter. We assess suitable wired, wireless or combined approaches against those requirements, and can use a prototype to investigate uncertain parts.
Can you also help with cloud or application integration?
We consider how the device connects to the wider system. For larger software and cloud solutions, we collaborate with local partners. We can discuss the responsibilities and interfaces at the start of the project.
