Testing a measurement method, building a prototype for a customer trial and preparing a product for production involve different amounts of work. A useful starting point is the decision the first phase should enable: does the idea work, is it useful to customers, or can production begin?
For example, a temperature-monitoring trial at one warehouse can establish whether the information is useful. A rollout across several sites also needs a plan for installation, maintenance and access to the data. We define the scope around the intended use.
An estimate needs a defined scope
A quote should explain what will be delivered, what the price includes and which questions remain open. If a measurement method needs proving first, we can make that a separate phase. Its results give a firmer basis for estimating the rest.
